With more faculty and friends than students, a bus traveled to Philadelphia on Jan. 24 to see the hit musical Wicked.
Wicked, the musical about Oz before Dorothy showed up, tells the story of Elphaba, played by Marcie Dodd, the Wicked Witch of the West, and Galinda (Glinda), played by Helene York.
A story of friendship, love and sacrifice, the show was sold out. After every song, the audience gave a round of applause.
After the show, when the cast took its final bows, the audience gave the actors a standing ovation.
“It was absolutely amazing,†said sophomore Amber Bell. “The music was my favorite.â€
Davonne Ross, a junior also loved the performance.
“It’s so hard to pick a favorite part, but I think I like Glinda was the best,†Ross said.
Abby Dillard, who attended the show with a member of Wesley faculty, said this was the second time she saw the show.
“’I love it’ is an understatement,†Dillard said. “I love everything about it. There is nothing I don’t like about the show.â€
Ruth King, a guest on the trip, learned about the excursion through a faculty member.
“When I found out, I told my husband that we had to go,†said King, who had been a music teacher for 23 years.
On the bus ride back to Dover, everyone raved about the show.
