Freshman Mikayla Caldwell received the Manufactured Housing Scholarship Award this year.
Caldwell attended Polytech High School and has lived in Delaware all of her life.
While in high school, Caldwell received mostly A’s and was a part of the National Honor Society and Future Educators of America. Outside of school, Caldwell was a girl scout and a member of 4-H.
“I applied because I knew I had to take out loans,†Caldwell said.
To qualify for the $750 scholarship, applicants must maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher, have attended a Delaware high school, and live in a Manufactured Housing building.
Caldwell lives in a Manufactured Housing building with her family. Caldwell applied for the scholarship in the beginning of her senior year, and by the time she found out she had received it, she already knew she wanted to attend Wesley.
Caldwell is an Education major heading for dual certification. She hopes to become a special education teacher for first graders. Caldwell wants to teach in Delaware because she has received another scholarship that will help pay for four years of college, under the stipulation that she teach in Delaware after graduation.
“Also, I’m a family person,†said Caldwell, “and all of my family is here.â€
