Chelsey Vest

Chelsea Jackson: What is your title hear at Wesley College?

Chelsey Vest: I have all kinds of hats at Wesley; I coach some of the time, I do student success outreach, and I am also doing counseling services with Anne Rogge this semester, and on top of all that I am a full time student.

CJ: How long have you been here at Wesley?

CV: I have been in my current role at Wesley since January 2014, but I have been a part of the Wesley community since fall of 2012 when I started helping out with the track team.

CJ: Are you the head coach of the track team?

CV: No, I started off working with distance (running), which transitioned to working with middle distance because that’s what I did in college. Now I concentrate on the women’s weightlifting side, because I am the only female coach on the track team.

CJ: Where did you go to school?

CV: I went to school at Tufts University up in Medford, Mass. I miss the intellectual side of Tufts but not the weather.

CJ: What was your major?

CV: I double majored in women’s studies and psychology so I was pretty much setting myself up to go to grad school with those majors.

CJ: What drew you to this field?

CV: Around the time I became really passionate about women’s studies and about feminism and I realized that it was something that would keep me stimulated and motivated professionally.

CJ: Since you are younger do you thing you connect with the students more?

CV: Yes, because everything they try to pull I have already done and, no, because sometimes I feel like they don’t take me seriously.

CJ: Do you think you still being in school helps with your advice to kids?

CV: Definitely. I try to model the fact that it’s possible to work and to intern and to coach and to take five classes. You just have to manage your time and practice good self-care.
