When students think of a history club, they may think the club is only for history majors. That is not the case with Wesley’s De La Warr society, Wesley College’s history club on campus.

“The focus of the club is to expand historical awareness on campus through trips and activities,” said Brian David, the club’s President.

Brian said the club tries to make it fun for people.

“Rather than go to a museum about medieval times, we’re going to go to a renaissance fair,” he said.

David said anyone may join.

“Even if you only come for the trivia, you don’t even have to like history because the trivia is for anyone,” he said.

Professor Stephanie Holyfield said students should join De La Warr because it’s fun and a great way to get involved with what’s going on around campus.

“We do field trips, movie nights, and trivia nights,” she said. “The trivia nights are very popular, and it’s not just historical trivia.”

Some history professors give their students extra credit for showing up at the club’s movie night.

Sophomore English major, Alainna Earl said she thought the club was interesting and fun.

“I like trivia nights and love the trips we go on,” she said. She also said she enjoyed the trip to the Franklin Institute and the Italian Market in Philadelphia last fall semester.

Undeclared sophomore Leah Eubanks-Mattress went to the club’s last trivia night for the first time and said she enjoyed herself.

“I thought it was hilarious,” she said. “I really did learn a lot. I see myself joining in the future.”

The majority of De La Warr’s members, 20 out of the 30, are non-history majors. All students have to do to join the club is show up to any meeting at any time.

“We want people to people to enjoy themselves,” David said. “We go somewhere that’s going to be fun for everyone.”

Holyfield and David both said they would like to take overnight trips in the future.

Meetings for De La Warr are every Thursday at 6 p.m. upstairs of the library inside the History department. The meetings are followed by trivia. Prizes for winners include gift cards, hoodies and T-shirts.
