Sophomore Fred Sottnick, a political science major, is running for vice president for SGA.

“I’ve decided to run for vice president because I want to make sure that Wesley continues to progress into a fine institution,” he said. “It has the potential. It just needs to continue to have strong leadership if it wants to reach its peak.”

Sottnick said that he thinks his biggest challenge, if elected, will be going from being on multiple executive boards to just one. He is the president of Alpha Phi Delta and the president of Students for Political Awareness. He is also the treasurer for Light to Light and a Resident’s Assistant for William’s Hall.

“To overcome this challenge is just adjusting to the situation,” he said. “I’ll learn quickly to understanding the role of this vice president position.”

Some of the changes Sottnick wants to make include student equality.

“Right now, the SGA is working on passing a student bill of rights,” he said. “If I am elected, I will make sure that the Wesley College student body is granted those rights.”

Sophomore Melanie Fischer said Sottnick is a friend.

“I think he’s very social and a friendly kind of guy,” she said. “I don’t think he’ll have a problem running for VP.”

She said she thinks he’ll be able to win.

“He knows a lot of people because he’s in a fraternity,” she said. “I don’t know who he’s running up against, but I do know he has a lot of friends who will stick by him.”

She said Sottnick would make a good vice president for SGA.

“When he’s committed, he’s committed,” she said. “He’s really dedicated and dedication is his best attribute.”
