They’re here to introduce students to something new.
The Inspired Motivated People Active Christian Team is making its mark on the Wesley community.
“Our goal is to make religion more interesting for students and to make them feel comfortable with Christ,†said Impact president Marqueita Alladin. “I.M.P.A.C.T is a Christian based organization that wants to bring Christ to the campus.â€
The organization was established last fall.
“I feel we have dedicated members on board that really spread the word about Impact events,†said Alladin. “I am pretty confident that as a new group on campus where making a name for ourselves.â€
Alladin also said I.M.P.A.C.T is always looking for new members.
“We are always welcoming students to join,†she said. “An average of about 20 students come out to the weekly Bible study sessions we hold and out of those students its always good to see a new face because it means the word is getting out and students want to be apart of a Christian experience.â€
Impact hosted its first joy night, a gospel inspired open mic showcase, on March 20.
“During our first joy night we had students read poetry, praise dance, and sing gospel songs in front of other students,†Alladin said. “The turnout was great and I look forward to having another one next semester.â€
I.M.P.A.C.T vice president Jasmine Oden, a sophomore, teams with Alladin to plan I.M.P.A.C.T events.
“My role is to make sure the job gets done,†Oden said. “I assume the responsibilities of whatever the president doesn’t do.â€
Oden also said I.M.P.A.C.T plans to host more events next semester.
“Since the harvest parties, joy nights, and Bible study events we held this year were all a good turn out we’re all trying to put our heads together to come up with more events for next year.â€
Unlike some groups on campus, I.M.P.A.C.T does not enforce strict requirements to be a member.
“One thing I want students to understand about I.M.P.A.C.T is that we’re much different from other organizations on campus,†Alladin said. “We don’t require our members to come to every event or record a certain about of hours for group meetings. We just want students to attend willingly to I.M.P.A.C.T sponsored events on their own.â€
I.M.P.A.C.T secretary, Heather Payne, a junior, says she feels confident with the way I.M.P.A.C.T’s good message is distributing on campus.
“So far I think I.M.P.A.C.T is spreading to the community at a steady pace,†she said. “I have noticed a lot more students are coming out to our events since we first started last semester.â€
Payne also said I.M.P.A.C.T provides a learning experience of the bible.
“I.M.P.A.C.T is a group where students have the opportunity to examine the bible for a different perspective,†she said. “Then in the process, students are getting a chance to meet other students with the same intentions.â€
I.M.P.A.C.T Bible study meets on Tues at 7 p.m. in CC 206.
