After competing in only three meets, the men and women’s track and field teams have broken several school records.

With a recreation center full of people and teammates cheering during the Thompson Invitational on Jan. 28, the 4×400 relay team set a record of 4:35.90 (4 minutes, 35.90 seconds).

Members of the relay team included Twila McCrea, Stevie Carpenter, Shakeiya Marshall, and anchor Sherleen Sabin.

“Running track, no matter the event, is something I love doing,” said freshman Stevie Carpenter. “The fact that I was on a relay team that broke a school record was just a bonus.”

Sabin said, “I just saw coach smiling when I crossed the finish line.”

Tristin Burris set a new record for the 3,000-meter run with a time of 12:12.95. Michael Liegey broke the men’s 3,000-meter run at this invitati

onal at 10:57.57.

Alex DelloBuono broke the mile record with the time of 4:59.06. Also, Richard Feeney broke the record for the 800-meter with a time of 2:11.26.

Arvantis Smith broke the triple jump record during the Albright College Invitational by hop-skip-and-jumping 10.39 (10.39 meters).

Sophomore and CAC men’s track athlete of the week Matthew Bundy, brought home two gold medals and shattered the 55-meter hurdle record.

Bundy sped past Larry Beavers’ previous record by almost a quarter of a second shorter, at 8.03

“It feels good to feel like I’m important to the team,” Bundy said.

With eleven meets to go in their season the teams are confident that they will be breaking more records to come.

“Yes, we could continue to break records, if everyone has the determination and dedication anything can happen,” McCrea said.
