The Wolverines came close to a shutout at the Homecoming football game on Oct. 16.

The 52-3 victory over Southern Virginia University gave head coach Mike Drass his 150th win with the Wolverines. The team is 7-0 this year.

“We were pushing for a shutout, but it was not to be,” Drass said.

Quarterback Justin Sottilare tossed three touchdowns in the first quarter and ended the game with 148 yards and seven completions.

Wide receiver Ellis Krout scored his tenth touchdown of the season and the Wolverines led in the first quarter 28-0.

In the second quarter, SVU received a penalty for unnecessary roughness after one of their players punched a Wolverine and by halftime, the Wolverines were up 35-0.

During the third quarter, reserve running back Jeremiah Howe scored from 24 yards out, and, two drives later, starting free safety Sean Scanlon ran 61 yards for another touchdown.

Wesley kicker Dan Tryon scored the final three points for the Wolverines with a 23-yard field goal.

With only minutes to go, SVU made their first score with a 21 yard field goal, after missing several.

“We thought the kids played hard,” Drass said. “It was a good Homecoming win.”

Wesley’s defense held SVU to less than 100 yards of offense and caused three turnovers and broke up six passes.

Georgia Haubrich, who graduated in 2009, came to see the game.

“The games are always great,” she said. “The defense is awesome.”
