It took James Poole three days to do it.
But when he was done, Poole had bought 60 books from Parker library Bag Day Sale, where anyone can buy a bag full of book for $2.
“I got so many books because I didn’t want them to go to waste,†he said. “I wanted to bring part of Parker library with me.â€
Parker library began to host Bag Day after the closing of the New Castle campus, said Jessica Olin, director of Parker Library. Books were donated to the Dover campus, which caused an overload of books.
“Whenever space needs to be cleared, we use Bag Day to give away old books,†Olin said.
Bag Day books are either out of date, fail to fit the Wesley college curriculum, are duplicate copies, or the old ones are replaced with new books.
There are plenty of faculty and students like Poole.
“I love Bag Day!†said senior Amanda Svehla. “You can get so many books for cheap.â€
Svehla got 20.
“I am excited for Bag Day,†she said, “depending on what they have.â€
Professors Victor Greto , Linda De Roche and Jeffrey Gibson also love Bag Day.
“Fifty books in my office are from previous bag days and I also give away some books to students,†Greto said. “Some of the books are of use to classes. There is always a large selection of old books I like to read. There are a lot of really good books.â€
Gibson, who has 15 books in his office from Bag Day, enjoys attending.
“I would like Bag Day to continue, so that more students and faculty use the resources†said Gibson, who also is interim vice president of academic affairs. “Bag Day gives the books another chance to be useful to students. I get books that relate to me or my teaching, or I give a few to my students.â€
De Roche has her own personal library within her office.
“I love the books!†De Roche said.
De Roche, a professor of English, loves every aspect of books.
“I like the smell, weight and feel of books,†she said. “I always want a book to hold in my hand. Bag Day is an opportunity to add to my collection of books.â€
