Water stain in gym ceiling

Freshman Xavier Laws never thought that he would be the one to slip on a puddle during basketball practice. There was a look of disbelief on his teammates’ faces after he fell.
“I’m glad nothing serious happened to my knee,†Laws said. “I thought it was a wrap for me.â€
When it rains, it pours, especially in Wesley College’s Wentworth Gym. The roof has been leaking for more than a year. The team has put trashcans on the floor to catch the water.
And new leaks seem to appear in different spots every time it rains.
Rain prevents the basketball teams from practicing full court. On those days, there are often up to five trashcans on one side of the court.
Senior Jason Forges slipped into the bleachers while putting up some extra shots one day. After looking at his knee to make sure it was OK, he went to go see what he slipped on.
“I would have never thought water would be on the ground,†Forges said. “Luckily I didn’t run too hard because it would have been worse than what it was even though I was sore for a couple of days. I am mad at the fact that this has been an issue since last year and there has only been a temporary fix.â€
Men’s basketball head coach Jerry Kobasa said the team has a hard time practicing on rainy days because the players have to practice with caution and can’t work as hard on that side of the court.
“I absolutely fear for my player’s safety when the trashcans are out on the court,†Kobasa said.
