Adriane Fraser: How long have you been teaching?

Coach Wearden: I started teaching in 1989 in Morgantown, West Virginia.  I have taught from elementary up to high school.

AF:  How have you changed your style since you started teaching?

JW:  My style constantly changes from the different course that I have taught to the level of the students.  Also, technology continues to change as the years pass.  When it comes to teaching I always make it fun, interesting, and about my students.

AF: What have you taught at Wesley College and what are you currently teaching?

JW:  I have taught numerous activity classes like basketball, team handball, volleyball, softball, individual and dual sports and team recreational activities throughout my years as a teacher.  I am currently teaching personal community health and wellness lifestyles.

AF: What rewards do you personally get from teaching?

JW: The biggest reward that I get from teaching is knowing that I am creating a better future for my students.

AF: Where did you go to school?  What was your major?

JW:  I went to a couple of schools, but a bulk of my study was from La Roche College in Pittsburgh, Pa.  I graduated from West Virginia University with a bachelor’s of arts degree in liberal arts and a master’s degree in education.

AF: What drew you to this field?

JW:  In West Virginia to coach basketball I had to be a teacher, and now I love to teach and also love coaching basketball.

AF: What was your worst or most interesting job as a student?

JW:  My most interesting job as a student was in Raleigh, N.C., at Johns Mansfield making plastic pipes for water and sewer pipes for houses.

AF: Where were you born and raised?

JW: I was born in Manhattan, Kansas and raised in Morgantown, W.V.

AF: Favorite movie(s)?

JW:  I like to watch old movies on Sundays, but my favorite movie would be County Fair and probably just about any other old Disney movie.

AF: Favorite book, poem or screenplay?

JW:  My favorite book is to Kill a Mockingbird and then Huckleberry Finn.

AF: Favorite music or art?

JW:  My favorite music is 1970s rock because they played music and sang from the heart they were real musicians.

AF: What are your favorite pastimes and hobbies?

JW:  I like to drive and go on vacation, but it’s not the destination it’s the trip/drive.

AF: What are you most passionate about in life?

JW:  The three things that I am passionate about is God, family, and basketball.
