If you’re looking to buy a gift card in the bookstore, forget about it.
The store stopped selling them to students by the second week of fall semester.
“Gift cards were pulled because of our national plan,†said bookstore manager Kris McGlothlin. “It was not pulled by our choice. The people who fund us pulled it.â€
The first week of school 15 people asked about the cards, he said.
“By the next week, people understood the scenario and we got less people asking about gift cards every day.â€
Many students said they were disappointed.
“Knowing you had a gift card to grab a bite to eat always came in handy, now I got to rely on spending my bonus points wisely,†said junior Ryan Smith.
Some students thought the bookstore was late on restocking the gift cards.
“It was inconsiderate for them to remove them without our knowledge,†Smith said. “Gift cards helped students out with money and buying cheaper books.â€
“They should’ve informed us about this,†junior A.J. Tilghman said. “I don’t buy books from the bookstore. I expected to buy gift cards from the store to buy cheaper books online.â€
“I also know selling gift cards is a big part of their profit, so why stop? If they sell out gift cards every week, I don’t understand the reason for this.â€
McGlothlin said no gift cards are good for the students in the long run.
“The school was for the removal because they feel students were losing all their money to service fees,†he said.
Since the removal of gift cards, the bookstore restocked education and dining gift cards.
