As a young boy, David Langan always used basketball as a way to hang out with his older brother and father. He spent days going to the gym with them, watching his father coach his brother on the court.

“Watching them and going to the gym with them really sparked my interest in the sport,” he said.

Fifteen years after playing on his first organized team in third grade, Langan has taken his basketball career to another level at Wesley College.

In his senior year, Langan broke both school and personal records. He was named player of the year in the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC). He also led the CAC in rebounds while ranking third with 16.8 points a game. Langan ended his season as the rebound leader, with 831.

“It feels good to earn those records,” Langan said. “It shows that all of my hard work is paying off.”

Langan also broke his own record by scoring 1,000 career-points. His team was a two-time First Team All-Conference selection, including this 2014 season.

“Playing at Wesley was a lot of fun,” he said. “I made memories I will remember for my entire life.”

Teammates said Langan made an impact on and off of the court.

“Dave was a big impact on the court, he was very skilled and a lot of attention was drawn towards him because of that,” said sophomore teammate Wayne Lennon. “Playing with Dave was a great experience that I was glad to be a part of. I’ve never played with a skilled 6’8 player in my life. It was also fun and interesting to get to know him on a personal side.”

After graduating with a physical education degree, Langan also wants to start coaching basketball.

“I can see him doing something with kids, whether it be teaching or coaching,” Lennon said.
