More than just a club and more than an event, the fashion show has taken Wesley College by storm by making the switch to becoming an official organization on campus.

Last summer, students Tamisha Thomas and Isnara St. Phard decided to transform the annual fashion show into Creative Attributions, an organization newly recognized by the Student Government Association.

“Together,” St. Phard said, “we worked to create a team and get the paperwork done to have what we have right now and to help the vision that we both have as the future successors of this show.”

One of the first things they had to do was come up with a name.

“We wanted a name that described exactly what we wanted to bring to Wesley and most importantly what described us,” she said.

The new organization is not only about the annual fashion show.

“We don’t only want to do the show, we want to help Wesley and the Dover area to be more confident and see that everyone has inner beauty and flare,” St. Phard said. “Our goal is for everyone at Wesley to feel free to wear what makes them happy and to be confident about it. Confidence is key.”

This year’s fashion show, on April 26, will be Wesley’s sixth in a row.

“The Fashion Show was started in spring ‘09 by some of our Wesley alumni,” she said. “Some of whom were involved with the New Era Dance Team and others who just enjoyed fashion, creativity, and clothing and wanted to have a tradition continue annually tradition at Wesley.”

Creative Attributes already has had a “model call” for the April show, and is holding a Valentine’s Day safe-sex seminar on Feb. 11.

There are several reasons why students have joined the organization.

“I wanted to join because I always had a passion for clothes,” said senior business administration major Shaun Brown. “So when this opportunity came about it was the perfect time for me to get involved.”

For others, this is not their first time at the ballpark.

“I used to model before I came to college from middle school through high school,” said junior Tiffany Simmons. “So joining was something I wanted.”

Others have joined thanks to friends.

“I heard about the Fashion Show through a mutual friend who was involved around the year I enrolled into Wesley,” Brown said.

“The Fashion Show was brought to my attention from other students on campus and the flyers I saw on the bulletin boards,” Simmons said.

Members also want to learn how to walk the walk.

“I hope to learn a lot about the techniques of walking and what makes people love doing this so much is the little fame you get when walking down the runway,” Brown said. “I want to continue to gain a lot of experience and I plan on taking it with me in the near future.”

For others, having fun and seeing a successful show is more than enough.

“I just want to really enjoy myself and see all the hard work make a successful show,” Simmons said.

“We are working hard to create an epic show and we are excited,” St. Phard said. “We hope everyone is just as excited as we are.”
