Wesley’s field hockey team finished this season after compiling a record of 9-11.

Goalie Lauren Mears said she thinks the team keeps getting better.

“The more we play and practice together, the better we get,” she said. “When we played against Washington College [Sept. 27], we held them down this year more than we did last year.”

Mears scored the winning goal during that game, but she said the whole team played well.

“We kept our composure,” she said. “Our defense especially played wonderfully.”

With young players this semester, Coach Tracey Short said the team is constantly improving.

“We lost six starters since last year,” she said. “We are young but we are getting better each game. Hopefully, by the end of the season, we will be a strong field hockey team.”

The team lost its home game 3-2 in overtime against Salisbury University Oct. 30.

Forward Gracie Daniels scored the two goals for Wesley.

“It felt good to have both goals but I couldn’t have done it without my team,” she said. “We had a really good comeback and did everything we could out there.”

She said it’s harder to play against a ranked team like Salisbury.

“There are things every game we could work on but we get better every day,” she said.

Forward Allison Perugini said she thought it was a good game.

“I was proud that we fought back and gave 110 percent,” she said.

She said she thinks the team’s communication on the field helps improve their game.

“Everybody has little things that they need to work on, but each game we get better individually,” she said.

The team lost their most recent game against Christopher Newport University 2-1, which ended Wesley’s season at 9-11.
