Javon Jones / Dover Police Report

After seven students reported being robbed at gun-point twice within blocks of Wesley’s campus, an arrest has finally been made.

Dover Police arrested 15-year-old Javon Jones Oct. 17, charging him with the two robberies against Wesley students on Sept. 27 and Oct. 15. Dover Police are still looking for the other two men.

“On Sept. 27, six students reported they were robbed by three armed males,” said Walt Beaupre, head of safety and security at Wesley. “On Oct. 15, one student reported being robbed by one armed male.”

Objects stolen in both robberies include: cell phones, wallets, a watch and a pair of sneakers.

Police said Jones was arrested for carrying a concealed deadly weapon; possession of a deadly weapon during commission of a felony; aggravated menacing; and conspiracy.

Six students were robbed behind Central Middle School on Sept. 27.

“We were initially notified by a parent of one of the students,” Beaupre said. “We then notified Dover Police.”

All three of the robbers had handguns, he said.

The students involved declined to comment.

During the second robbery on Oct. 15, Jones demanded the 18-year-old student’s cell phone, holding him at gun-point. Once Jones received the student’s cell phone, he fled the scene. The student returned to campus and reported it to Wesley security.

Beaupre said students should always be aware of their surroundings.

“Stay on well-lit and well-traveled pathways,” he said. “Remove ear buds or headphones so you can hear someone approaching. Most importantly, trust your instincts. If you feel unsafe, get out of the area as quickly as possible.”
