Women’s soccer started strong this season with a 3-1-1 record.
Their first game, against Gwynedd-Mercy, ended in a tie, 1-1, while they romped their second opponent, Trinity, 10-0.
Within only the first two minutes of the game against Trinity, Wesley almost scored its first goal but the ball flew over the goal posts.
Midfielder Karysa Pikoulas made the first goal against Trinity, unassisted. Wesley scored seven more before the end of the first half.
“When they’re up 8-0 [by halftime], they shouldn’t hold the ball,†said George Pieros, a friend supporting Wesley sophomore Brooke Cicale. “They’re playing well and strong. They should just keep scoring.â€
Cicale said he thought if the women maintain their stronghold, they’ll have a crushing season.
“If they can maintain their flow of passing that they have now, they should have enough possession and ball control to have a better chance at scoring and less of a chance of being crushed,†he said.
Head coach Ed Muntz said the game was a building experience.
“We were able to get some freshmen in the game and some players who didn’t get to play last game,†he said. “We have some good youth and great experience. It’s about working hard every day at practice. We tied the first game and this game was good practice for the conference play at the end of September. We’re getting better every day.â€
Senior Nicole Adams said she was impressed.
“I think their passing and communication has been executed very well tonight,†she said. “I think they improved a lot since last year and they’ll have a great season this year if they keep it up. Their defense has gotten a lot better and it’ll be harder for opposing teams to break their back line.â€
