Senior Bianca Bailey has always loved to sing and dance, but now that Wesley’s sporting its first musical, she’s ecstatic.

“I was chosen to play my favorite part in the play, Rizzo,” she said. “She’s sassy and sarcastic just like me. I’m still nervous, though, because I hope I can play this iconic role well.”

Bailey said she’s always loved Grease and she’s watched many different versions of the play, but she’s happy she can be apart of this version with her fellow actors.

“I feel like we are so supportive of each other,” she said. “Brian Cass does a great job at directing and helping us see where we are doing well and where we need help. The cast is a riot and we’re always having a ball when we rehearse.”

The play will be on Mar. 26 and 27, free admission to Wesley students and staff at the Schwartz Center. Community members will have to pay $5 admission.

Brian Cass, director and music professor at Wesley, said the proceeds will go to Wesley’s music program, including future musicals.

Although the musical counts for credit, Cass said there are still openings for cast members, particularly males.

“This is the first year for the musical at Wesley,” Cass said. “It will be a tradition that continues every spring now.”

Freshman Amber Roddy, who plays Frenchie, said she’s enjoyed being a part of Wesley’s first musical.

“The production is coming along well,” she said. “A few minor details need to be refined but I would highly recommend it to others who are interested.”

Practice is in the chapel on Thursdays at 3:15.
