The month of November is here and so is the countdown to stuffed stomachs, endless sweet potato pie and a frenzy of football.

Wesley students look forward to being around family on Thanksgiving.

“Thanksgiving with my family is so entertaining, I enjoy it every year,” says sophomore Yvette Thompson.  “My parents always invite the majority of my family to my house for Thanksgiving so we can all be together.”

It’s a chance for some students to find out what they’ve been missing while away.

“Spending time with my family is important to me because it gives me a chance to catch up with family members who haven’t seen me because I’m away at school,” said sophomore Pez Scott.

The holiday also allows students to indulge in foods they love.

“Food is the only thing on my mind on Thanksgiving,” said freshmen Anthony Bowers. “I normally eat about four plates on Thanksgiving so I can try everything everyone made.” “I’m a picky eater but I usually just eat a lot of mac and cheese on thanksgiving” Said Scott.

For many, Thanksgiving is as much about friends as family.

“I have had Thanksgiving dinner with some of my close friends and their family,” says sophomore Taylor Stewart. “At least two of my friends every year ask me to spend thanksgiving with their family.”

Although family members gather and share food, they don’t necessarily share the same taste in football. Not everyone’s favorite team gets to play on Thanksgiving Day.

“I’m a die-hard Cowboys fan so Thanksgiving football is always something I look forward to,” says sophomore Anastasia Hannah.

Only six NFL teams are playing this Thanksgiving, including the Cowboys, Detroit Lions, Washington Redskins, New England Patriots and the New York Jets.

“Football talk during Thanksgiving gets loud with my family because many of us like a like different teams but it’s all fun to me,” Bowers said.
