You know her by the smile she wears as you get your coffee or a frozen pizza, a Vitamin water to heal that hangover, candy to keep you going in the library, condoms for the weekend, or a quick sandwich between classes.
She’s Nancy Norman, the woman who cashes you out in the Wolverine Stop.
She’s been there for two years and loves the short hours and flexibility they offer her.
“It’s nice to see a nice smiling face when you walk in there at 8 a.m.,†said SGA vice president Bryan Zarou.
Nancy, 60, was born in Kentucky to a tight-knit family of seven, and spent much of her childhood outside, fishing, mountain climbing, camping or going to drive-in movies.
“I have lots of memories, none of them bad,†Norman said of her easygoing household. “They made sure we were going in the right direction,†she said of her parents. “They let us grow on our own.â€
Norman lives in Clayton with her husband of 41 years, Corbit, who works for the U.S. Postal Service in Newark. The couple has two children: Corbit, Jr., who gave her four granddaughters; and Laura, named after Nancy’s mother, who has given her parents three grandsons.
“She is always very friendly, has a smile on her face, is helpful and always says ‘Have a great day’ as I walk out,†said junior Les Ragan. “She’s a really sweet lady.â€
