Lewis Wells tribute

Wesley College celebrated the life and career of Professor Lewis Wells Oct. 8 on what would have been his 100th birthday this year.

“He was an inspirational and beloved professor who touched the lives of many, many students and others in the Wesley and local community,” said Amanda Downes, director of alumni relations.

Wells worked at Wesley College from 1946-1982, teaching English, public speaking and drama. He was instrumental in establishing a strong arts program, particularly theater.

“Our specific goal was to collect memorabilia and memories about Professor Wells and his work that would continue to keep his story alive,” Downes said.

The tribute included an All Class Reunion Dinner and a slide show presentation that included photos and quotes provided by alumni. Alumni shared stories and performed dramatic readings after dinner.

“I remember Lewis Wells. I’m just glad to be here to celebrate what would have been his 100th birthday,” said Albert Stallone, Class of 1961.
