Dr. James Wilson, director of Wesley’s choirs, said he was disappointed in several aspects of the variety show because of an often rowdy audience and some of the acts’ voices were drowned out by pre-recorded music.
“I think the variety show could serve as an excellent opportunity for students to share their talents,†he said. “However, the show includes a disproportionate amount of pre-recorded tracks used as back-up for singers and dancers.â€
Wilson also said the atmosphere for the show was not appropriate.
“The resulting atmosphere is that of a rowdy karaoke club, more so than an actual performance, and the audience responds in turn,†he said.
Wilson also was disappointed with some members of the audience, who, he said, didn’t show the performers respect.
Wilson accompanied the gospel choir and the Wesley choir on piano. During his performances, many audience members talked and didn’t pay attention.
“I feel that our student body as a whole was not well represented in front of the few parents and family members who were there,†he said.
