Some Wesley students were confused by a misprint in the student handbook, which gave them Oct. 3-4 and Oct. 11-12 off.
The misprint occurred when the administration changed the weekend of the original scheduled fall break. The real dates for this year’s break were Oct. 3-4. Homecoming weekend was Oct. 7-9.
“As I understand it, the dates for Fall Break were changed after the student handbook had already gone to print,†said Kevin Hansbury, director of residence life.
The misprint was caught soon after the semester started.
“It was not brought to my office’s attention until we were into the fall semester,†Hansbury said. “The students were all notified in order to avoid any confusion or the potential for students to miss classes.â€
Some students looked forward to having extended fall break.
“I thought the misprint was funny,†said junior Shanna Bryant. “I noticed the error at the beginning of the school year, but didn’t say anything. I knew that it had to be an error but kept thinking it would be kind of cool to have two fall breaks.â€
A lot of students misunderstood the error.
“I feel as though it caused a lot of confusion for students,†said freshman Tenaj Moody. “It made a lot of students also change their plans, which was a big inconvenience.â€
Freshman Crystal Winkler said, “she would have loved the idea of having two fall breaks to spend more time at home with family and friends.”
Some students had to reschedule plans.
“It was confusing and had a few of my plans thrown off,†said junior Mike Streeter. “Luckily I was able to straighten them out just in the nick of time.â€
