Drinking games are one of the most popular so- cial activities on campus.

“Drinking games incorporate fun,” said Nico Scarpato, junior. “When you just drink [without playing a game] you just get drunk, so you might as well play fun games while you drink. It brings people together to make more of a social life.”

Senior Hodges Horton agrees “Competition makes it fun,” Horton said. “People don’t just want to sit around and do

nothing [while they drink],” says senior C.J. Bacote. There are many different games, including beer

pong, kings, and flip cup. “The most popular game on campus is probably

beer pong,” said junior Pat Slinka. However, certain circles prefer a combination of

beer pong and flip cup called baseball. The game features a line of four cups. A ball made in the first three cups signifies a single, double or triple, respec- tively; a ball in the fourth cup is a home run.

When a cup is made, the team on the receiving

end has to drink all the cups that come before it. In the case of a single, double or triple, run- ners remain on base until they are “batted in,” after

which a run is added to the score. Any ball that is caught in mid-air or off of the

rim of a cup by the defending team counts as an “out” for the batting team.

There is also a steal cup, which can be picked up and drunk at any time while there are runners on base.

The defending team has to drink their steal cup and win a round of flip cup to catch the runner steal- ing and record an out.

“It’s a team effort, and you need to work togeth- er to make cups for runs and be able to catch the ball while playing defense for outs,” Scarpato said.

“Both teams end up drunk whether they win or lose,” he adds.

“It’s competitive, and I haven’t lost yet,” said junior Evan Day.

The constant drinking of baseball contributes to its growing popularity.
