Wesley’s Men’s Basketball team is at the highest rank it has ever been; No. 3 in the NCAA regional rankings.
After winning eleven straight games, the Wolverines were finally defeated by St. Mary’s on Feb. 12.
Senior Kevin Johnson became the tenth player in Wesley’s division to score 1,000 career points when Wesley beat Stevenson Feb. 2.
Sophomore Paul Reynolds leads the conference in scoring.
Senior Angie Owens was named CAC Women’s Basketball Player of the week. She helped the Wolverines pull into fifth place in their division. After the Wolverines’ win at Stevenson, Owens became Wesley’s career-rebounding record holder after she grabbed 15 rebounds.
Cory Boyd, another senior, was recently featured in “Introducing…â€on the CAC’s website. Boyd is in second place for Division III most assists per game.
The women’s basketball team is currently 12-10 and 7-6 in the CAC.
The Ice Hockey club beat American University, 4-2, in the first round of the play-offs on Feb. 11 at Hershey P.A. In the semi-finals, the Wolverines lost to Gettysburg with a final score of 4-10. Both challengers are in Wesley’s Mason-Dixon Conference Division.
Spring Sports
Wesley’s spring sports are pumped to begin after the breath of warm weather and a predicted early spring.
Gerald Szabo said the Women’s softball team is in a rebuilding mode for the upcoming season.
“We are vastly improved and have a great core for a promising future,†he said.
Kelly Karle, junior, led the team in hitting with a .317 average. Karle got on base in 14 straight attempts at bat.
The softball team has 13 newcomers with 9 players returning.
The Men’s baseball team is returning from a 29-13 season last spring. They advanced to the championship round of the CAC play-offs and won the ECAC South Championship.
Returning senior, Kevin Murphy, lead the conference, last season, with 22 stolen bases and 63 RBI’s.
Men’s Lacrosse has 12 newcomers joining the squad. The Wolverines have 2 returning top scorers of the 4 with Justin D’Alonzo, 19 goals and Eric Crumbock, 14 goals.
The Women’s tennis team has five of their 6 starters returning from a team that qualified for the CAC play-offs for the first time, in 2010.
Junior Nick Barr and sophomore Pat Slinka look to move up from third singles to replace last year’s first singles and second singles men’s tennis players.
