Wesley’s softball team has a new motto.
“Play like a wolverine, win like wolverine, be a wolverine,†said coach Gerry Szabo.
After a less then stellar season, the team is looking to rebuild.
“We got some great kids,†Szabo said. “We are working at rebuilding the program with these kids.â€
After a record of 6-30 last spring, Szabo says that the team is “looking to be tough.â€
Unlike softball, baseball had a good season last spring, posting a 29-13 record, and winning the ECAC Championship in post-season play.
For the spring season, lacrosse, golf, and track also will be playing.
All teams play in the Capital Athletic Conference.
“They all aspire to play in the conference tournament in hopes of qualifying for the NCAA tournament,†said Mike Drass, director of athletics.
The Golf team became the CAC Champions last year, and an alcohol awareness week will be held in honor of Andrew Geyer, a political science major and former member of the golf team, who was killed two years ago.
The golf team’s home tournament is named for him as well, said Geoff Goyne, director of sports information.
Both men’s and women’s track finished fifth at the CAC Championships last year.
