Jody Sweeney, the new Chief Executive Information Officer of Wesley, has a vision.

“Imagine sitting out front of the school on your iPad or iPod and getting a Wi-Fi connection,” he said.

For a while, students have been asking IT when they could receive wireless on their iPad, iPods, Droids and all other Wi-Fi enablers.

Sweeney hopes that working with an outside partner will get the process going soon.

The purpose of trying to get wireless on campus, Sweeney said, is that the wireless feature is supposed to be for teachers and students alike to access the Internet for teaching and learning purposes.

Each day, Sweeny has the final word on campus technology. He also helps students solve their computer and Internet connection problems.

Sweeney is currently working with Dr. Malcolm D’Souza to get wireless throughout the campus.

Cannon Hall will be the first academic hall with wireless; next will be the Quad, and then the dorms.

“It’s a good learning experience for the teacher and student,” Sweeney said.

Sweeney earned a Bachelor’s degree from Wilmington University in Business Management.

He most recently worked for the state’s department of transportation for 20 years. He says he can shed some limelight on the IT department. He also knows what students want around campus concerning anything having to do with technology.

“I have a parent’s perspective,” Sweeney said.

Sweeney’s main goal is to get students aware of the IT department and the seven employees he supervises in the basement of Parker Library. He wants to build the technology department so they can be recognized as a valuable asset to the college.

“We are always here to help,” said Sweeney.
