Gooding Hall is under investigation.

The laundry room was vandalized, causing each machine $1,000 in damage, said Kevin Hansbury, director of residence life.

Wesley believes it happened around 4 a.m. on Sept. 21.

“Somebody just decided to trash them,” Hansbury said. “The money slot was ripped off and the top part that closes it was ripped off.”

Hansbury believes it was an attempt to get the money.

“They also dumped some sort of substance on both machines,” he said. “It ate away at some of the surface.”

Two machines were vandalized.

The next day signs were posted in Gooding announcing a lockdown and “24-hour quiet hours.”

The administration did not put up the “lockdown” signs, Hansbury said.

“We do not put buildings on lockdown,” he said.

The increased restrictions have some residents upset.

“I feel like if I even talk, I’ll get in trouble,” said freshman Ashley Bendorovich. “But it’s also good because I can finally sleep at night.”
Some students don’t care, while others think the rules are stupid.

“No one follows it anyway or gets in trouble,” said freshman Lauren Murtha.

Security has been amped up on campus, especially in Gooding, Hansbury said.

“There’s always vandalism, but this was the first major incident this year,” he said.

The case was referred to Dover Police.

The laundry room was closed as “part of an ongoing investigation,” Hansbury said.
