A beach party-themed Wishfest on April 10 helped raise money for the Make-A-Wish foundation.
Sponsored by Inter Greek Council and the Student Government Association, Wishfest is an annual event that works to raise money for the foundation.
“The event has been going on a long time,†said senior Natalie DiSabatino. “We have held it here for roughly ten years.â€
Students only had to pay $3 to enjoy the festivities. $400 was raised at the event.
T-shirts, food, water ice and drinks were provided to students who donated. There were inflatables, sports and a water gun maze as well.
A student band in the contemporary music ensemble, Residential Curbside, covered songs from artists such as Green Day and The Killers.
“We have been planning this year’s event since spring 2008,†said junior Kelly Morgan.
SGA and IGC arranged for food, rented the inflatables and made sure that there was security, maintenance and a photographer.
Abdul Hameed, a senior, said that he likes that the event was held in Lot A, as opposed to Wesley West, where Wishfest has been held in previous years.
“This [location] was bigger, easier and closer to campus,†he said. “We want to open the event up to the community and this location was easier for the community to get to.â€
Students running the event said they wished more people would have come.
“I wish people would start caring and showing up,†DiSabatino said.
Shane Miller, IGC president, agrees.
“We would love to have more involvement at the school,†he said. “I can’t wait until next year to see it bigger.â€
