A man was shot at the Loockerman Exchange Feb. 26 when an argument escalated between him and the defendant, Demarcus Shelborne, 26.
“I was standing around watching [theam argue],†said senior Justen Albright. “Then more people started coming around and they were pushing and shoving.â€
Shelborne fired a single shot into the victim’s abdomen before fleeing on foot.
The victim was transported to BayHealth and listed in stable condition.
Shelborne turned himself in two days later and charged with assault in the first degree, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and carrying a concealed deadly weapon.
He was jailed on a $42,000 secured bond.
“At first I thought it was a gunshot,†Albright said. “Then I thought it sounded quiet so I thought it might have been a beer bottle busted.â€
