The Lady Wolverines are playing at the top of their game as they enter the final games of the season.

The team has won three straight and have only three games left before the conference tournament.

With a 14-8 record, they have already surpassed expectations from the beginning of the year.

“This season has been about survival really,” said head coach James Wearden. “All the early injuries in the beginning made our young girls really step up. Everyone is playing together and our depth in the lineup has really developed.”

Wearden expects to sew up the third seed in the conference, and take out the top two seeds in the playoffs.

The team is led by senior Cory Boyd and junior Angela Owens.

Boyd leads the team in assists with 97, and is one of the top assist leaders in the nation.

“I know others on the team can score, so I like to give up the rock,” Boyd said. “I’m 100 percent now, and we’re really clicking as a team now that everyone is healthy.”

Owens is the scoring leader, averaging 17 points a game. Owens recently earned Capital Athletic Conference player of the week and D3Hoops.com team of the week honors.

“I’m feeling pretty confident,” Owens said. “We’re putting on the finishing touches, everybody knows the press and offense, and we’re deep in rotation. After the honors I received last week, it means a lot more when you have the team behind you.”

Owens reached the 1000 point milestone against Galludet on Saturday, scoring 23 points in the victory.

With the conference tournament only a week away, the Lady Wolverines are not only confident about making the NCAA tournament, they’re hopeful about going deep in to the playoffs.
