Going into the final stretch of the season, the Wesley Men’s Basketball team is cruising for success.

Winning the last eight out of 10 games, the team is now 15-6 with a strong conference record of 9-4.

“We have really come together as a team,” said guard Rudy Thomas, a junior. “Youth can’t be used as an issue any more, and as me being one of the leaders on the team, I feel it’s my responsibility to do anything to keep the team involved and striving.”

The team is in the middle of its final stretch of games. Most will be held on the road.

At home, the Wolverines hold an 8-1 record. The road has proven more difficult, leaving the team with a 4-3 record.

“We have a tough road ahead of us, five games in eight days, and four are on the road,” said head coach Jerry Kobasa. “Overall, were pleased so far. We lost three key players last year, but have gained key senior leadership from Alphonzo Wright and Jacques Bowe.”

Thomas is leading the Wolverines, averaging 16 points and three assists.

Junior guard Chris Douglas has high hopes for the end of the season.

“We were picked seventh in the conference and we lost our three top scorers this season, and now we’re third,” Douglas said. “It feels real good to prove everybody wrong and hopefully we can ride this streak all the way to the NCAA’s.”

The team has three games left before they have to play in the conference tournament.
