The student population says it’s satisfied with the improvements made to the cafeteria, the Den, the college center and the Underground.

“I think the improvements are very nice,” said sophomore Brendan Keelan. “All the new additions to the school make my experience here more interesting and complex.”

The college added an array of new perks this semester.

New furniture was added to both the Underground and the College Center.

“The new setting creates more of a social environment,” said junior Maura Druhan. “I think Wesley is trying to make the college more welcoming.”

Several students enjoy the additions to the Underground.

Freshman Deondre Taylor, a commuter, spends his free time between classes in the Underground.

“I like it here,” Taylor said. “I especially love the T.V. I watch Sports Center down here.”

Freshman Niko Papatsiaras also enjoys the entertainment in the underground.

“It’s pretty cool down here,” Papatsiaras said. “I come to the Underground to play pool, and basically just get out of my dorm and chill.”

Wesley’s cafeteria also got updated. Early this semester, food station attendants and environmentally-friendly to-go trays were added.

“They have a salad attendant all the time, it’s awesome,” said junior Jenn Eckstein. “I love the eco-friendly to-go trays. That’s so good for the environment, at least better than the Styrofoam trays we were using before.”

According to Peggy Bowser, who attends the to-go tray station, 433 trays have been purchased, and 40-50 trays are used each day.

Executive Chef Peter Buoncristiano meets with the food committee regularly, and believes the semester to be successful in student satisfaction.

“I think it’s going very well,” Buoncristiano said. “The results I have heard has been positive, but the line of communication is always open if students have any concerns.”

Club Simpson has been changed to the Den, hours of operation extended and a new menu added.

Student usage of the Den has slowed down since bonus points began to run out, but students are pleased with the addition.

Junior Demetrius Trisvan enjoys the cheap prices and the great quality of food.

“It’s like Club Simpson has its own dollar menu,” Trisvan said. “I can get mozzarella sticks, onion rings, fries, or quesadillas and not have my pockets emptied out. It’s definitely better than years before.”

Dean of Students Mary-Alice Ozechoski feels there is more space for students to socialize now and plans for continuous improvement.

“It’s all about giving the students more options,” she said. “We still have a long way for improving facilities. But we will continue to roll something new each semester to improve the school physically and internally.”

Wesley is in the process of adding a YMCA area in January in the basement of Carpenter Hall. This will be the new Wesley College wellness center, and students can come for counseling.

Jeanette Panunto, a registered nurse in the health center likes the new move.

“I think it’s going to give us a lot more room,” Panunto said. “It’s going to be a complete wellness center with counseling and physical treatment.”
