On Halloween, Wesley’s Wolverines defeated rival Salisbury Sea Gulls 30-12 in a battle for the Atlantic Central Football Conference title.

The Wolverine’s Wide Receiver, CJ Bacote, stressed how important the game was.

“For the past five years, including this one, the game against Salisbury has been for the ACFC conference championship,” he said. “And this game has also determined who gets into the playoffs.”

Aaron Jackson, a four-year starter on the team and running back, knew what Salisbury was going to bring.

“When I think of Salisbury, I think of a team that is going to give me their best shot every play,” he said. “I have to come prepared and focus to overcome those challenges.”

Extra preparation helped the Wolverines fight against the Sea Gulls.

“Preparing for Salisbury means extra time in the weight room, extra time studying film during the week and practicing to be that much harder,” Bacote said. “Not to say that we don’t prepare for every team like this, but when its Salisbury week, everything is just that more intense.”

Prior to the game, Jackson was confident in Wesley’s strengths on the field.

“Wesley will have poise, discipline, and execute on all levels on Saturday,” Jackson said.

“Salisbury is going to come to play, so we have to show up and play to the best of our abilities,” Bacote said. “If we do that, then we will remain undefeated.”

The game against Salisbury is as exciting for the fans as for the players.

“I think we should kick their butt!” said Professor Tommye Staley, a fan of Wesley Football since 1993.

“This [game] is a matter of pride,” she said. “Step up, men, and play football!”

Sophomore Josh Spivey knew how Wesley came out with a win.

“They can’t have mental mistakes,” he said. “We have a lot of experience on the defensive side, so our defense will shut down Salisbury.”

Wesley’s defense forced four fumbles and intercepted two passes.

Bacote and Jackson both scored touchdowns.

Jackson was awarded ACFC Offensive Player of the Week.

This win clinched Wesley’s fifth consecutive conference title.
