The International Honor Society in Psychology, known as Psy Chi, is looking for members.
“It’s for Psychology majors and minors,†said Jessica Walsh, president of Psy Chi. “It’s been around for a while, but we’re trying to build it up.â€
Psy Chi members are nationally recognized, and are able to attend regional conventions with other chapters of the organization.
“At the conventions, you can go and present any research you may have done,†Walsh said. “You can win grants and scholarships for good research.â€
Walsh says that one of the biggest benefits to joining Psy Chi is that it looks good on a resume.
“To be a member of a national organization looks great,†she said. The organization is currently planning several events to raise funds and awareness of Psy Chi.
“We want to have a career day,†Walsh said. “We’re going to get a bunch of pros from the field of psychology, like clinical and forensic psychologists. We’re also hoping to hold a bake sale, and one of the members wants to do candygrams. We also hold food and clothing donations.â€
Members of Psy Chi also receive a lifetime membership to “Eye on Psy Chi,†the organization’s magazine.
Students are eligible to enter Psy Chi as long as they are a registered Psychology major or minor; have completed 9 credit hours of psychology courses; and have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
Students interested in joining Psy Chi can contact Walsh at jessica.walsh@email.wesley.edu or Dr. Elizabeth Siemanowski at siemanel@wesley.edu.
