During a meeting, the Student Government Association voted to replace the college’s 18-year-old mission statement.
The current statement is as follows:
Wesley College seeks to be a premier institution for helping students gain the knowledge, skills, and the moral and ethical attitudes necessary to achieve their personal goals and contribute to the welfare of their communities in the global society. The College endeavors to impart a desire for life-long learning and an enhanced capacity for critical and creative thinking so that students can reap the reward of intellectual growth and professional effectiveness. As a College in a covenant relationship with the United Methodist Church and founded upon Christian principles, Wesley strives to realize a holistic campus environment of common purpose, caring, tolerance, inclusiveness, responsibility, and service that is the heart of the community.
The proposed mission statement is:
At Wesley College we teach and learn. In the great tradition of liberal arts education, we strive to impart the knowledge and dispositions that will liberate and empower our graduates to find meaningful places of service in the world. Consistent with the principles of our Methodist founders, Wesley College find “the end and aim of life†in the idea of an open community of justice and reconciliation that upholds the truth, sustains the dignity of life, and finds a place at the table for everyone.
