Dr. Jo Ann Fields

Dr. Jo Ann Fields spoke to the college on Sept. 23 about health care reform and why Delaware and the country need it.

The reform Fields proposed creates an insurance exchange that would be more affordable for small businesses, Fields said.

>> 575,000 people in Delaware receive health insurance on the job
>> Family premiums average about $14,579 each year

>> 12 percent of people in Delaware are not insured, and 69 percent of them are in families with at least one full-time worker.

>> 13 percent of children in Delaware are obese.

>> 16 percent of women over the age of 50 in Delaware have not received a mammogram in the past two years.

>> 74 percent of adults over the age of 65 in Delaware have received a flu vaccine in the past year.
